Knossos
KNOSSOS. Knossos, the famous
capital of Minoan Crete, is find at 5 kilometres south of
Heraklion.
For ten centuries Knossos was the first and biggest town of Greece.
Nowadays we can only admire the left behinds of the big palace
of King Minos, the villa's, the theatre, the urns and graves. At
this location, people lived for the first time at about 6000
years before Christ in organised context. The by archaeologist
Evans styled reconstructions, give the visitor insight in the
structure of such a Minoan palace-complex. Crete is the entrance
through which the very ancient civilisation of the Middle east
entered Europe. This civilization reached a climax under King Minos,
between 3000 en 1000 before Christ.
