ISTRO. The population of Kalo Chorio, chose during
the rising of tourism to concentrate the tourism in this region,
near the sea. Therefore
the tourist village arise, situated at ca. 75 km from the airport and capital
of
Heraklion. In Istro you will find several mini markets, little bars and good
taverns. During wintertime only a few shops are open. The biggest attractions
of Istro
are, except for the quietness, the beautiful beaches. The bay of Mirabello and
the Triphti-mountains, serve as the view of the picturesque located apartments.
Mirabello means in Italian "beautiful view".
It became this name during the Venetian period from
1204-1669. On a distance of 9 km is Agios Nikolaos,the capital of the department
of Lassithi.
