Sidari - Corfu (Greece)

SIDARI. The tourist village of Sidari is one of the best places on the island of Corfu. It is located about 36 kilometres north from Corfu town (55 minutes by car) and can be reached via a beautiful winding road through the green mountains of Corfu. The sandy beach of Sidari is one of the better beaches of Corfu and almost all water sports are possible here. The water is very shallow and therefore it is also perfect for families with little children. Sidari's main attraction is the famous Canal d 'Amour. These are enclaves that are arising between the sandstone cliffs by the sea, the soft sandstone is ground away. It is said that every couple that swims in the channel will always stay together. Another version of the story says that everyone that swims while the channel is in shadow, will always be happy in love. There is also a third version that claims that every batchelor who swims through the channel, will soon meet the man or woman of her or his dreams! I found Sidari a very enjoyable lively place. The main street runs along the beach, there are souvenir shops, snack bars, bars, nightclubs and tavernas. There are many choices for entertainment .Sidari is a lively city and the area around Sidari is full of oak trees and sycamores.

Along the coast are deserted bays you can rent motors, bicycles and cars to explore the surroundings better. You can also rent a horse to ride along the beautiful bays. Near Sidari is one of the oldest settlements of Corfu. There are remains found of a Pre Neolithic settlement dating from 700 BC. These remains are now on display in the Archaeological Museum of Corfu town. From Sidari you can also take boat trips to Roda, Paleokastritsa and Kassiopi or to the islands off the coast. The sandy beach of Sidari is very nice and slopes gently into the sea.
