A subtropical surprise
Compared to the north part of Crete, the south part is sunnier
and warmer. Mirtos has an extra ordinary, subtropical
climate, because it is protected by the Dikti Mountains.
This subtropical climate is almost unique on the whole
island! So spring and autumn are sunny and the winters
are mild. The summer is of course very warm, but there
is always a cooling sea breeze!
Many facilities in Mirtos:
Although Mirtos is fairly small, the village offers a lot
of possibilities to have a very good holiday:
- A nice beach with (during the season) sun beds and a small
but good water sport centre
- A boulevard with plenty of good restaurants and kafenions
and of course many terraces
- Three supermarkets, a bucher, a bakery, a few gift and
jewellery shops,
- Also in the nice small street near the boulevard more
restaurants, kafenions and a few bars
- Some tourist offices rent out cars, bikes and do give
good information about excursions, walking tours etc.
- And as far as the distances are concerned; within a five
minutes walk you can reach them all!
