Mandraki. Mandraki is the capital of the Greek volcanic island of Nysiros. It is a picturesque village with stunning white houses, charming alleyways and squares. In the center of the village you’ll find many souvenir shops, and dockside you’ll find many nice seafood restaurants.
Behind the village, on a high rock, rises the Spiliani Monastery. This monastery was built in 1315 and the view from above is fantastic.
Mandraki has a small, sandy beach, but the most impressive beach is found behind the rock of Spiliani Monastery. This beach is made up of volcanic rocks and is all black. It’s a few minutes walk from the center of Mandraki.
From Mandraki you can make a nice trip to the volcanoes on a mountain plateau, about a 20 minute drive by local bus.
