Platamonas. Platamonas is a popular holiday resort in Pieria, southeast of Mount Olympus, 37 kilometers (23 mi) from Katerini (the capital of Pieria) and 54 kilometers (33.5 mi) from the city of Larissa in Thessaly. Platamonas is close to Neos Panteleimon (7 km/4mi) and has just over 2000 inhabitants. Most residents of Platamonas come from Neos Panteleimon.
Some say it owes its name to the many plane trees in the area, others claim that it owes its name to the sandy beaches on the coast.
Most residents of Platamonas are involved in tourism. The area is renown for its beautiful beaches and lively cafes and bars. Throughout the region there are many luxury hotels, apartments and campsites.
