Lamia. Lamia is the capital of the Greek prefecture of Fthiotida on the Greek mainland. The city has about 50,000 inhabitants and is situated 200 kilometers (124 miles) northwest of Athens. In this town are several large squares with many restaurants and cafes. On these squares you can see monuments commemorating important people and events. The main sight in Lamia is the castle, which is located just outside the city, on top of a hill. The wooded hillside of Agios Loukas is ideal for hiking. In town are some interesting museums such as the ethnographic museum.
