Sarakiniko - Milos (Greece)

Sarakiniko. Sarakiniko is one of the most popular and most impressive resorts in Greece. The name was given for the Saracen pirates who used the white cliffs as protection and hiding places in the 8th to the 10th century. Restaurants, cafes and beach bars are not found here, but there is an imposing moonscape! The white rock formations are extraordinary, all a result of the volcanic activity that occurred on the island in the past.

The combination of white cliffs, large sea caves, blue sea and sky is spectacular. Between the rocks is a small sandy beach. From here you can walk right into the wonderful water. Risk-taking swimmers dive from high rocks that measure more than ten meters (more than 30 feet) high! Sarakiniko, which is about five kilometers (3 mi) from Plaka and Adamas, is a frequent stop for visitors in the summer. Several times a day buses arrive here, as well as tourists in cars or by scooter. Parking is adequate. Besides the parking lot is a kiosk (cantina) were snacks and soft drinks are sold. Tourist boats come regularly to afford their passengers the ultimate scene.
