Kioni.The authentic fishing village of Kioni on Ithaca Island (Ithaki) is located on the northeast coast of the island, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the village of Frikes and 21 kilometers (13 mi) from Vathy, the capital of the island. The route from Vathy through Frikes to Kioni is beautiful, and offers amazing views.
Kioni is a beautiful traditional settlement with a picturesque harbor. It is a retreat for pleasure craft and fishing boats. The well-kept houses with ceramic tiles offer this village an attractive look. On the quays are many taverns, with terraces near the water. There are also a nice Greek cafés (kafeneions). Everywhere in the village you will see pots of flowers. The village has a friendly appearance and friendly residents. The surrounding area is beautifully green, the hills behind and around the village are full of trees.
The inhabitants of the nearby village of Anogi chose in the past this location as the place to settle. They wanted to live closer to the sea, in order to live from the fishing, and thus Kioni originated. Kioni offers an ideal environment for hikers and people who want to have quiet holidays. A popular and easy hiking path is the one that begins at the village of Anogi and ends at Kioni, comprising of a 16th century paved pad.
