Polis. Polis is the beach located in the northwest of Ithaki Island, 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) from Stavros. It is an organized pebble beach with sun loungers and umbrellas and where you can even rent a motorboat. On the left side of the beach is a small fishing harbor. On the beach next to the harbor is a kiosk selling all kinds of snacks, beverages and ice cream. There is also a terrace where guest can sit and drink their beverages. The beach is famous because of the Loizos cave. Loizos was a resident of Ithaki who discovered a cave in the 19th century. In that cave were found all kind of objects from ancient times. Unfortunately, since the 1953 earthquake, the cave is no longer accessible to the public. The beach that is visited in summer months, especially by Greeks, lies in an idyllic setting with a lot of greenery. It is easily accessible by car and there is ample parking.
