Megalochori - Santorini (Greece)

Megalochori. Megalochori is one of the most traditional villages of the Greek island of Santorini, with many neoclassical buildings, white churches and narrow alleyways. Another feature of the village is its cave houses, as in Oia. Megalochori is located about ten kilometers (6 mi) south of Fira and is best known for the wine produced here. Megalochori is home to Boutari, one of the largest wine producers in Greece. Tours and wine tasting are available to the public.

The Church of the Holy Mother, with its 365 miniature figurines of saints, is located in Megalochori. Traditions are cherished in this village, such as the July 1st Feast of Saints Anargiri, with lots of music, good food and wine.

In Megalochori there are all kinds of hotels and apartments, and also a campsite.  The beaches nearest to Megalochori are Vlychada, with its marina, and the beach of Perivolos.
