Gialova. Gialova is one of the most popular resorts on the west coast of Messinia, Peloponnese, Greece. This town is located in the bay of Navarino, a few kilometres north of Pylos.
Gialova has a nice sandy beach. At the port are many cafeterias and restaurants. On the boulevard, especially at night it is very cosy.
To Gialova come people who like a quiet holiday and nature lovers. A little further north is Lake Gialova, also called Divari. It is a protected area known for its unique flora and fauna. Migrant birds seek refuge here. Through a quiet dirt road, visitors can visit the lake. On the other side of the lake lies the beautiful beach of Voidokilia. Around the lake there are several nice beaches where you can swim in peace. Just outside Gialova in the direction of Pylos, are two great golf courses belonging to the Hotel Costa Navarino.
Exactly opposite the coast of Gialova is the elongated island Sfaktiria. This island almost completely closes off the bay of Navarino. In this bay the battle of Navarino took place in the year 1827, where the Allies defeated the Turkish-Egyptian fleet. The island has monuments that remind us of that battle.
