Afiartis. Afiartis is a large area in the southeast of the Greek island of Karpathos, located close to the airport. In this region you’ll find the most sprctacular beaches of Karpathos.
South of the airport is a dirt road that leads to Diakofti, a pristine, beautiful, secluded beach with no amenities. A little further away is Michaliou Kipos beach with striking rock formations.
In this area it can be very windy, so it is the ideal place for windsurfing. In Afiartis, the area north of the airport, several surf schools are located and international surfing competitions are held here annually.
If you want to learn to surf, then the conditions in Afiartis are perfect. Here you’ll find three consecutive bays where you can learn to surf, can come as a beginner, or surf as an expert. Each bay lends itself to a different level of skill. In the first bay for instance, the wind is less strong and the water is shallower - ideal for beginners.
