Petra Lesbos. Petra is a tourist village situated on the north coast of the island of Lesbos, between Anaxos and Molyvos. It owes its name to the volcanic rock in the middle of the village. (Petra means "stone") On top of this rock is built a small church, the church of Panagia Glykofilloussa. The climb to this church is worth it, because from there, you have an excellent view of the entire environment. Petra is just a few kilometres from Molyvos and is a pleasant tourist resort, with narrow streets and alleys.
On the town square are tavernas, bars, a post office and a pharmacy. The long sand-pebble beach is located west of the village. Along the beach are plenty of terraces where you can eat or drink and enjoy the beautiful sea views. There are water sports available. There are also great hiking possibilities in the surrounding area, including Petri or Molyvos.
Petra is a typical Greek village with a peaceful Greek atmosphere. There is also a small harbour, which is slightly away from the centre. From here boats depart for daytrips, such as to the lovely town of Skala Sykaminia.
