Kornos. Kornos is a mountain village in Lemnos, seven kilometres northeast of Myrina and four kilometres east of Kaspakas. It is a picturesque village with beautiful stone mansions located on the slopes of the hill ‘Skourka’. From here above, you have a nice view over all kind of plains and hills.
In Kornos there is the beautiful church (Basilica) of the "Assumption of the Virgin" (= Kimisis tis Theotokou) built in the year 1892. The other church in the village is that of Agios Andreas.
Kornos is a village which is famous for the production of sweets and tsipouro (raki). On the village square are all kinds of trees such as sycamore and there are a few cafes and a typical Greek taverna. Walk through the village, through all kinds of narrow streets but beware if driving , especially if you have a larger car, as it is sometimes tight to drive through it.
Near Kornos are the hot springs of Therma located. The water is suitable for drinking as well as spa. These sources were already used in the 15th century. The water comes from a depth of 1200 meters to the top and has a temperature between 42 and 44 degrees Celsius. There are two sources from which the water comes.
Therma is located behind the hill of Profitis Ilias with on the top of the homonymous chapel. Every year there is a popular festival which is visited by many residents of Lemnos
