Sissi is a small fishing village east of Malia at the foot of a high mountain. Sissi is about 40 kilometres from the airport of Heraklion and in recent years tourism has developed enormously. In principle everything a tourist wants and needs can be found here. The centre of Sissi is the place where cosy restaurants, cafes and bars are located. There are also some shops, souvenir shops and minimarkets. From Sissi you can follow scenic hiking routes and you are able to go mountain biking here aswell. South of Sissi is Epano Sissi (Above Sissi), which is a very beautiful traditional Cretan village. Because of the central location of Sissi there are plenty of possibilities to organise day trips to Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Hersonissos and the traditional village of Sissi Vrachassi etc. The beaches are small but fine. The most famous is sandy BOUFOU next to the village. A little further is the beach Avlaki.
