Kalami - Corfu (Greece)
KALAMI. Kalami is a very nice fishing village, 28 kilometres north of Corfu town, on the northeast coast of Corfu. Kalami is very popular among Greeks and especially in the high season. The slightly curved bay is sheltered by olive trees and cypresses. The water is beautifully clear. During the day the beach is a busy popular place, but at night it gets quiet again. Cars and bicycles can be rented but also Sea-Doo boats. Rooms can be rented and there are some small hotels, there is a quiet authentic atmosphere. Kalami is closely connected with the name of the writer Lawrence Durrell. He wrote his book "Prospero's Cell" here in Kalami. The white house on the water where he wrote this book is now a taverna. Some of the rooms where he used to live are now being rented, in one of them his office is still standing!
