Fodele. Fodele, a village on the Greek island of Crete, is best known for being the birthplace of the famous painter "El Greco". During his stay in Spain, the painter Theotokopoulos "The Greek" was called El Greco. Fodele, the village, has a nice square with a statue erected in his honour. Fodele is located in a very beautiful, watery and therefore green area. It is a friendly village with some small shops where handicrafts are sold. There is also a nice taverna near the big old tree where there is a memory plaque about El Greco. There is also a fountain which is conveniently placed for the thirsty passer-by.
