Kokkinos Pyrgos. Kokkinos Pyrgos is a small port village on the south coast of the Greek island of Crete that belongs to the municipality of Timbaki. Kokkinos Pirgos is located in the bay of Messara, 60 kilometres south of Heraklion city. Kokkinos Pirgos is the beach where mostly Greeks go for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is very nice and it's really nice to swim. Along the beach there are several restaurants and cafeterias. A number of weeks a year it can turn a little disappointing because of the strong winds. Some people experience it as a positive because, thanks to these winds, the temperatures are pleasant. Kokkinos Pirgos also has a small harbour with fishing boats. One of the nicest hotels in Kokkinos Pirgos is “Little Inn” where Nikos is a great host. Kokkinos Pirgos means "red tower" translated from Greek. The name refers to a tower built in the Middle Ages and made of red clay. Unfortunately this red tower is not preserved.
