Stalis - Heraklion Prefecture (Greece)
STALIS. Stalis (or Stalida) lies on the north coast of Crete, it is the small seaside resort between Malia and Hersonissos. A few years ago it was still very quiet, now it has become a busier tourist town. In Stalis live approximately 1000 permanent residents. Stalis has a very nice, long and wide sandy beach, there are dozens of great bars, restaurants and shops. Stalis is pleasant and the beaches are clean. You can have in Stalis a lovely meal for a reasonable price. It is very close to Malia, so sometimes you do not even know whether you are in Stalis or Malia. For nightclubs you should be at Hersonissos or Malia, although today more and more entertainment venues can be found in Stalis.
By public transport you are in 5 minutes in Hersonissos; a taxi will take you there for about €10. The airport of Heraklion is 35 kilometres away. There are several tennis courts in the area. Other sport and leisure activities include parasailing, banana-riding, pedal boats, kayaks, personal watercraft, water skis, there is a mini golf course and beach volley. Excursions from Malia are plentiful. Stalis is surrounded by vineyards, olive and citrus groves. You can find wonderful, long walks. From Stalis there is a road to Mochos and the Lassithi plain. Mochos is a nice mountain village at 400 metres above sea level, with a very nice village centre. Many people from Mochos work during the summer in Stalis.
