Vamos. Vamos is a traditional Cretan village, located 25 kilometres southeast of Chania city. It appears as if this village is not at all influenced by modern trends. It has kept its own original style. When you visit Vamos, it seems like time has stood still. Vamos is a very nice village with traditional houses and narrow alleyways. It is surrounded by greenery and trees. All the habits and traditions are well preserved and nurtured, cultural activities are organised regularly, especially during the summer. In Vamos, is established the company “Vamos AE”, this company plays an important role in the aesthetic development of this village. In the village there are several traditional tavernas, cafes and shops where local products are sold. Vamos is located on a strategic point, in the past fighting occurred here regularly, between the Cretans and the Turks. In the village you will see the bust of Papamalekos from 1896, one of the main heroes of Vamos. If you are on Crete in April, then it is worthwhile to visit the snail festival. That day there are all kinds of Cretan dishes with cooked snails. There is, of course, raki, wine and Cretan music. In Vamos there are about 700 permanent residents.
